Meeting July 4 2015

What I like in the sharing:

First of all, our facilitator conduct a make-up class in IT Elective 1 ( Tecnopreneurship 1 ). Because we didn't meet him in the whole week because he is busy with some work. So the make-up class is held last July 4 2015. So I got there in time, and my friends and classmates already prepared for our facilitator to come and conduct his class. After I seated, minutes had passed, our facilitator arrived, and he started to talk. We are shock because he gave us a quiz. We need to prepare a sheet of yellow paper and a black pen, because this quiz will serves as our first and last quiz in this semester. I liked this part of his make-up class because our facilitator's quiz is very tricky, his simple instruction is very easy but tricky. So we need another paper because he said that there must be no erasure. So many of my classmates don't have a paper, and we need to buy paper from other classmates worth P20. So, in order to have a piece of paper, we need to pay our classmates. In order to continue our quiz, our facilitator required us to use blue pen to answer his questions. But most of my classmates don't have a blue pen, so he said that he is willing to sell his blue pen for P100. Me and my classmates shock because of the price. But he permitted us to use black rather than using blue. In the final part of the quiz, he show us a figure with a 9 dots. We must draw it in the center of our paper, and we must connect the 9 dots using 4 lines without lifting our hands. At first it was very difficult because it is impossible to connect the 9 dots using 4 lines without lifting our hands. But in some point, I remember something that it goes like this. I remember solving this kind of tricky question in past life with another teacher or maybe with my past friends and classmates. So I figured it out and answer it with no hassle. When our facilitator wants to check our paper, he call some students to answer the 9 dots correctly. The first attempt was a fail, because they said it's impossible to connect the 9 dots using 4 lines without lifting their hands. Then, the second attempt also fail, they can't figured it out. So, our facilitator decided to pick some of my classmates who answered it correctly. He picked one of my friends, and he answered it correctly. And my other classmates are shocked about it , because answering the 9 dots is tricky also. And after that our facilitator questioned us that what is the purpose of these 9 dots to be answered by us. Our facilitator teach us a lesson about the 9 dots that "Do not think inside the box but rather go outside the box".  So, after hearing it, I was shocked and many things and ideas go into my mind after hearing these. And what is the meaning of these regards to our quiz about the 9 dots. For me, the meaning of this is that we must not limit our learning's and ideas, and we must not limit our understanding what we learned from our different teachers, we must explore outside the school, and learn new things, and discover new ideas to develop. We must exceed our learning's rather than keeping a line against it, so that it will help us to become more productive and gain more knowledge. And to be able to enhance our skills right now to some different levels with high capabilities and skills as we learned and understand. We are very amazed about our quiz because our facilitator gives us that lesson to be applied in real life that time and in the future. And also he talks about the money we give to our classmates to have some piece of paper, the purpose of it, because technopreneurship talks about money, technology and the most important the business we are taking on. And our facilitator order us to give us the money back to the right owner after the class.

That was the first part I liked most. And after the quiz, our facilitator began his class, and teaches us and share his experiences to us. As our facilitator starts his discussion with us, we are really attentive and wants to hear some of his experiences, so that we will be inspired by him also. So he started to discuss about what really a technopreneur do, and what is technopreneur.  But first our facilitator tell us about what is the connection between entrepreneur in regards to technopreneurship. He said everything he know about it, and explain to us in a simple way with great examples. So, I learned what a technopreneur really do. And why technopreneur exist. So our facilitator share his experience about developing technopreneur in our country, Philippines. Our facilitator share his experience on how did he introduce technopreneurship in our country, especially here in Davao city. For me, our facilitator is very great, I am inspired by his story on introducing this technopreneurship here in Davao City. Our facilitator is very creative about implementing his ideas, and our facilitator want Davao City to be more productive and to have better system in regards to technology, because Davao City is behind 5 to 7 years from the technology from Manila. Because in Manila, not just Manila, but whole Luzon, because there are many big companies in there. And most of IT Companies are from Manila, who help to contribute and help Philippines to excel and become productive. Our facilitator and his friend who become a dean in Ateneo De Davao University, the two of them is the one who introduced the technopreneurship here in Davao. They plan it so that for the whole benefits of the students and all the people. Because it gives them the best opportunities in life. Our facilitator and his friend who become a dean in Ateneo De Davao University received a letter from the Australia, and offer them to study and go to school there for free for a short period of time to learn more and to become more productive and to learn more about technopreneurship. Our facilitator said that the short period his talking about is about 2 years. So we laugh about our facilitator reaction, because if he go to the Australia and study there for 2 years, he will be depart from his families, and if our facilitator get sick, who will be the one who will  care for him. I enjoyed that part. So our facilitator and his friend who become a dean in Ateneo De Davao University plan and have a better idea, they counter the offer from the Australia, they said that how about they go to the Philippines, especially in Davao City and conduct a seminar for how many days to teach and learn more about technopreneurship rather than going to Australia and go to school and learn more about technopreneur for 2 years. And suddenly their counter idea works with the white people. They decided to go to the Davao City and conduct seminars to teach people and implement technopreneurship. We are amazed what did our facilitator to counter their offer and make them go to Davao City rather than go to the Australia to learn. As they prepared for the coming of the Australian people especially big time entrepreneurs and technopreneurs. Our facilitator invites all technopreneurs from Manila, and the presidents of every school in the Philippines, and especially in the region 11. So our facilitator prepares a lot for this big event and big opportunities for the people and students in Davao City, and so that technopreneurship will be recognize in our country. Until the said event gather and they learned many things from the Australian people from business to technology and the most important part is that the Australian Companies implement technopreneurship here in Davao City, and that is the first step plan of our facilitator, and until he able to establish the technoprenership here in Davao City, and soon he implemented it in Manila, and in the whole country. Me and my classmates is very proud of our facilitator because of his contribution to Davao City, to implement his ideas to give the students and other people opportunities to create and move to become a technopreneur in our country and learned many things out of it.

That was the second part I liked most. The next discussion of our facilitator is about the goals of the students and other people in life. Our facilitator introduced to us the mindset of a certain student or person and the alternative mindset. First he questioned us, what is our mindset as a student in life. So we answered and luckily we are correct. But the actual mindset of a student like us is to go to school, learn new things, get a degree, and get a job. Well that is the truth if we ask some students out there, for sure it's the same thing if we asked them, their answers will be just like the actual mindset, to go to school, study and learn, get a degree, and get a job. I do some research in the internet, that there are two types of mindset. the first one is the fixed mindset, and the other one is the growth mindset. Both of them is a basic mindset of all students and people. People in a fixed mindset believe you either are or aren't good at something, based on your inherent nature, because it's just who you are. For me this fixed mindset, is the most common to us because you just think of what is the outcome of your goals in life, and this kind of mindset is very harmful for us, so it's worth understanding and considering how it's affecting you. For an example when you have a fixed mindset, you can say someone that "she's a natural born singer" or "I'm just no good at dancing". While people having a growth mindset believe anyone can be good at anything, because your abilities are entirely due to your actions in life. The growth mindset believes trouble is just important feedback in the learning process. For an example when you have a growth mindset, you believe "anyone can be good at anything. Skill comes only from practice.". In a fixed mindset, you look inside yourself to find your true passion and purpose, as if this is a hidden inherent thing, and failures define you. While In a growth mindset, you keep up your confidence by always pushing into the unfamiliar, to make sure you’re always learning. You commit to mastering valuable skills regardless of mood, knowing passion and purpose come from doing great work, which comes from expertise and experience. And one more thing, our facilitator introduced an alternative mindset to us, that we need to develop and to practice. This alternative mindset is to think outside the box, and not to limit your ideas to your knowledge only. This alternative mindset is dedicated to us: students, and other people to have opportunities in the near future. In an alternative mindset the student must go to school, study and learn, get a degree, create a company. So this alternative mindset is good for us and we must develop it on our selves because we exceeding our knowledge to better opportunities, having a job to create something new, to start up our own business and company, being an employer rather than being an employee after getting a degree. After hearing this from our facilitator, I am thinking of having this mindset rather than choosing the other mindset, because this alternative mindset will exceed my expectation to create my own company after I graduated in College.
So the last one I liked most is that there are schools with incubation hub back then. Our facilitator discussed and share about the incubation hub being built in Davao City. So what is an incubation hub? It is my first time to hear that word from our facilitator, and me and my friends are wondering what is the purpose for that incubation hub. So, our facilitator explained what is the purpose of this incubation hub being built in Davao City, because it helps students and other people to help them to make new and start up companies to develop by providing services such as management, or office space in a certain place. Our facilitator share his story and experiences about these incubation hub. The first incubation hub was built in the Broken Shire school here in Davao City, It is the first implementation to built one in Davao City. Our facilitator tells the details of this Incubation hub in Broken Shire school. The components of the incubation hub is a big container just like the container in a ship transportation. Inside the container, there are some office equipments to do work, just like aircon, computer set, internet, and everything needed for a start up. This is a great help and a good opportunity to start up a company or a business with friends, because the dean of the Broken shire offers no fees, the incubation hub they built is for free. So that the students and other people have enough time to discuss their plans and to develop their ideas with comfortable room and they also have all the things needed to establish their start up. But the incubation hub in Broken Shire school didn't last long because after the resignation of the dean who implemented the idea, the incubation hub gone. The students and people who works here losses hope because they don't have a place to continue their plans and development with all the things they needed to establish that and a place with no amount. As our facilitator continue his discussion and experience, he tell us that there are an incubation hub built in the UIC ( University of Immaculate Conception ). For students who want to have a start up company with their friends. But it is not free said by our facilitator. You must pay in order to use the incubation hub there. How about the people with potential with great ideas to establish his or her own start up company if he or she don't have a money to pay to use an incubation hub, because he or she is lacked of things needed to build his own start up company. Also our facilitator said that our new building inside the University of Southeastern Philippines, they gonna build an incubation hub. Hope we can use it before we graduated in Institute of Computing. But it takes years before our building will be build. Our facilitator discussed more lessons , he also introduce a little information about the SEED curriculum he implemented this year.

What I like least in the sharing:

Well, all the discussion and experiences shared by our facilitator are very interesting , inspiring and we learned a lot from it liked all the discussion our facilitator tell us, but some of it is just don't come in my mind, or I didn't like it much. I don't like the part where the new dean or president of Broken Shire school remove the incubation hub. Because it is the opportunity for the most of the students and other people to make their own start up company. Because one of these students, will be excel and become a technopreneurship in the near future by the help of this incubation hub. And also, students and people also needs things they needed to help them to plan and develop their start up companies. The incubation hub helps the students to gain more knowledge. And also with this the talented person who have a nice idea, they will grow and learn more in the time they stay in the program. This is also a great opportunities to the young ones so that they have the place with facilities to develop something creative that can help to themselves in achieving their goals. For me I like the idea of the incubation hub, because most of the people nowadays don’t have the fund to develop a project. Money is what you need to develop something nowadays. And in our situation here in the Philippines it is difficult to find money, especially when that somebody don’t have job. We have fewer opportunities to develop the knowledge that we are so post to be developed. I believed that the young ones in our country have the guts to compete to the other countries. But our government don’t have seen it, they don’t give funds to the youths with talents so that they can be successful. Mostly of the Filipino nowadays is poor. And I know that the young ones that are not rich have the best ideas that they can offer to our society. And with the incubation hub, I know that they can develop it in free. For example the person who have the idea don’t have job, they have the opportunity to make that idea possible. And we all know that nothing is impossible only human being make it impossible. If we do our work with happiness and dedication I know that we can make impossible possible.  For me the new president or dean of the Broken Shire school is not helping the students to become productive in their life careers. I think the new president or dean of the Broken Shire school don't want to see their students become successful in life. For me, he or she wants to stop and cut their students opportunity to make a new start up company. And she cut the possibility that someone will succeed

Our facilitator also said about the Ateneo De Davao University building a incubation hub for students and people to take opportunities and to come up with new ideas to create new start up companies. But their plans didn't go and never implemented in their school, our facilitator said also that they planned it to build the incubation hub about last 10 years but until now, they failed to build it and never implemented and develop. I don't know why schools can't build this incubation hub for students who have great ideas to be develop. I think building this incubation hub is not that difficult and costly. I can see the idea of the last president or dean of the Broken Shire school, by his or her idea , by making the big container as an incubation hub with complete things inside like aircon, internet, and other useful things needed to start up a company. I am excited of the new building of Institute of Computing with an incubation hub, works well with the students to perform and develop their ideas and to create start up companies with their friends, and I hope that if they build an incubation hub here in USEP ( University of Southeastern Philippines) , the incubation hub must be free.

I didn't say the I hate some of our facilitator's lessons and discussions. But is it required for us to right some words to the things that we don't like least about the discussion. About the events we required to join by our facilitator, we are excited about it because it is free, without having a money to pay, we just go there to present our great and precious ideas that our facilitator approved, so that we can seek opportunities , and if we are selected as winner, there is a chance that they will hire me soon to their companies. I am looking forward to these event but I have a feeling of scared to face new challenges, face other schools with their top students with greater ideas than yours. I must overcome it so that I can win and presented my school for my success. Our facilitator wants to seek awards, because our facilitator wants his students to become successful in life and have an opportunity to create our own start up company and be successful. Our facilitator said to us that in many years he teach in USEP ( University of Southeastern Philippines ) he is not happy because he didn't see yet a student graduated in Institute of Computing who will create his or own company and become an employer rather than applying for a job to be an employee in his entire life. Our facilitator share a picture of some who become successful in life and works on abroad, she is very successful in life because she is smart and hard working. Our facilitator always wanted her to come back to Davao City to work and help Davao City to improve but she didn't want to. Well people have different path to take, it depends on them if they want to go back to their place to work and contribute to the development of his or her own country especially in the city where he or she graduated and took his or her degree. Our facilitator, it is just like he shares his knowledge and experiences on us by doing things, developing things, and exploring undiscovered ideas that people and students  could gain. For me, our facilitator's principles in life is indeed worth to be inspired by it and praised. Also our facilitator said to us in the beginning of the class that he does not teach for living, he teaches us because he wants to share his knowledge and experiences upon us and he also wants the lives of his students to be successful in life and find good opportunities, and to create their own start up company. With his actions, as a professional facilitator, I think and I'm sure that every instructor and facilitator like him wants his students to step out on our cage and face the real world. They want to us to learn from everything, from our mistakes, and they want us to find solutions for it to overcome it someday , and we can become successful in life. Our facilitator is very strict towards attitude, because he wants us to have good attitude towards other especially having a business in regards to technology. Because attitude is the most important traits to be develop as a successful person. Because our attitude as a person, a student, an entrepreneur, a technopreneur, will reflect on who we really are. Our facilitator wants us to dream and passionate to obtain our goals in life, he want to pass his knowledge to us so that we will become successful as he is right now, and want to share ideas to the whole world and implement your ideas. Our facilitator always remind us to study hard, and work hard and passionate to our works and goals, and we must explore every day to come up with new ideas so that as we graduated, we can create our own company business in technology and become an employer to be able to hire people, rather than being an employee, because our facilitator wanted us to become big, and his knowledge and experiences he share to us will not go to waste.

Also, we must not limit ourselves, we need to surpass our limits to learn more, because learning many things can come up with new ideas, and we must always be an open minded person on everything. We must go beyond our limits and boundaries to discover and explore new ideas and innovations that could help us to develop and share to the whole world. Our facilitator also wanted us to take any risk to find any small or big opportunities that will surely help us to continue our journey to become successful.

Our facilitator also introduced to us a glimpse of the SEED curriculum to be explained properly in the next meeting. School is said to be our second home where we could enhance our physical and mental abilities. In school, everything that you do will be observed, recorded, graded and appreciated. Students must bear in mind to always be excellent in everything they do while in school because the more they strive hard and work hard to be on top, the more chances they could have to get good grades, get on top of the class and have awards and medals. It is always a fulfilment to the parents if they see their children graduated, be professionals and be able to raise money for living. The other things to be discussed is all about the mindset our facilitator introduced to us. I liked it in a way that it helps me and other people to set a certain goal in life to follow it and to achieve it step by step. Because there are many things you can learn and it depends on a mindset you want to follow with passion. And I liked least about the mindset is to switch from a usual mindset to a different one, there are many kinds of mindset to be offered. But we must focus on the given situation where our facilitator gives us and teach us and introduced to us the alternative mindset. So most of my classmates and especially me have these usual mindset that sets our goals to go to school, study and learn, get a degree, and get a job. So this is the main focus of any students. But after our facilitator, Sir Gamboa explained to us the alternative mindset that we must take on rather than taking the usual mindset. For the first time it is very difficult to switch from a mindset to another mindset. But for me, after our facilitator discuss it with his experiences , I understand the importance of his teaching and sharing his experiences to us, it makes us motivate in such a way we must follow this kind of mindset so that we can become successful in life and find good opportunities waiting for us anywhere. This alternative mindset that is very advanced to usual mindset, to go to school, study and learn, and create your own start up company. For me it is just like exploring outside the box, that you go and surpassed your limits in order to achieve your goals in life. At first , I'm not interested of this kind of mindset, I just want to follow the usual mindset, but I was thinking to become passionate to become successful in life by taking this alternative mindset and follow it , because our facilitator wants us to become successful in life by his teaching and experiences he shared to us. We are inspired by our facilitator, by his hard work towards us that he always share his experiences and pass his knowledge to us to become good thinkers to generate good ideas.

We also show gratitude to our facilitator, Sir Gamboa by representing the students of Institute of Computing by winning in every contest and events conducted. Last year the higher years comes up with the 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, 4th place, and 5th place. This is how students gain knowledge from our facilitator and apply to real life situations and scenarios. For those students who have high ambitions, they will not be contented on just becoming employees or workers. They will have the vision to have their own company, have their own workers and employees and be known on their expertise. Alternative Mindset is not just focusing on getting good grades and earning a high salary but it is beyond of the boundaries. I said “beyond the boundaries” because we are not sure if we will achieve to create and to own a company. But what matter most is that we have a perspective to reach this kind of goal. Before aiming this kind of objective we should use our knowledge wisely and effectively, as well as our skills, core values, our creativity and passion in order for us to create and innovate technology.  As we the new students of our facilitator, we are required to join to the said events and contest, but not the events and contest with a registration fee. Our facilitator didn't required us to join to the events with a registration fee because we can't afford it. In this coming events and contest, we must be serious about taking these events so that our facilitator will be proud of us, and by doing this things, we can learn more things and we can see opportunities in every events we are going to enter. And also we can discover new crazy ideas and soon we will implement it.

Our facilitator want to put technopreneurship subject in every IT curriculum in Davao City and to the whole country, our facilitator even introduced technopreneruship in Manila, and luckily they agreed about it. Because it helps students to become and learn more about business in technology and to make start up companies.

By putting this technopreneurship subject in every IT curriculum could make the graduates come into a decision to chase their technology based business plans and strategies as a start up in technology incubators. With this , venture capitalists will invest in their feasible high technology products. The start-ups they had created will be established into constant and firm IT enterprises and in the long run, it will locate them in IT parks (a place of high technology companies). I really like this kind of idea having technopreneurship as a part of IT curriculum because nowadays IT enterprises compete and participate in the domestic and global market and impel the growth of economy in the local area. It is so nice to know that our local IT industry blooms and it catches the attention of more locators and shareholders. With this kind of advocacy, our own graduates will come to a decision to build and create their career and profession here in Davao City. Also, there will be a chance that our graduates who left Davao City will come back and settle on to start again. If our graduates will not migrate to other places and pursue their career here in Davao, there is a possibility that through Technopreneurship,
